The Goblin Orchestra

A little bit of a scribble. Nothing planned, just sort of let it be what it ended up being.

So...a sort of musical recital for some kind of underground fish monster monarch held by a bunch of weird creatures.

He doesn't appear to be all that pleased to be hearing it...

Our Topper

Here's another bit of wedding creativity. I've done a couple of cake toppers for other people and, while I had save the dates, invites, a seating plan and various other bits to do I made a cake topper as well. It would've been strange to not make one for my wedding. The idea is basically a 3D version of the save the date, combining a bunch of things that we both like. The TARDIS is me, as is the dinosaur. The cat and the Pride and Prejudice book is my wife. The pint of beer is for both of us.

The Lord of the Rings ring around the cat's neck is both of us as well.

As I've said before in several of these 'model build' posts I tend to avoid objects with straight lines. I put the clay on in blobs and then have to spend ages smoothing it flat. The dinosaur's tail is also kinda long...but I wanted it to wrap around everything.

We've been to weddings before where the cake is so enormous most of it gets thrown away. We didn't exactly get the smallest cake...bit it seems quite small with the topper on it!

The goggle-eyed mushroom gatherer

It's been quite a while since I've posted on here. Been quite busy. Doing another alphabet at the moment.

In the quiet bit's I thought I'd get back into charcoal, do something traditional while the grim February weather raged on. It took me ages to actually finish him, but here he is. This guy doesn't really have a backstory, I just thought I'd take the Brian Froud route and go from the eyes outwards. It's not something that usually works.

Anyway, just a bit of fun. I have an idea that the mountain king is having some sort of celebration and this guy is the official mushroom gatherer.

Seating plannage!

Right then, quite a mammoth post this one so prepare yourselves. It's also a mammoth event, getting married, so it's quite fitting I suppose. I wanted to have characters from the TV shows and films that we love crowded around the tables in a similar fashion to the invite and save the date. No one design, colour or character could cover everything.

So I thought, why not have a character each side holding up the 'table'.

Makes sense to put the finished seating plan at the top. Here it is in situ on the day.

We also made standees of the characters for the tables and put the characters on the placecards as well..to make it clear which table people should be sat at.

The little models are a whole different kettle of fish! I'll get to them later.

Anyway here are all of the original versions.

Toothless from How to Train you Dragon (my wife)

A 1964 Dalek from Doctor Who (me).

Legolas and Gimli from The Lord of the Rings (both of us).

Minions from Despicable Me (my wife).

Gypsy Danger from Pacific Rim (both of us).

Russell and Fredriksen from Up (my wife).

Wall. E from...Wall. E (my wife).

The Macawnivore from The Croods (my wife).

The Gorn from Star Trek (me).

The Pirate Captain from Pirates, an Adventure with Scientists (my wife).

Skeksis, Gelflings and Fizzgig from The Dark Crystal (both of us).

Berk, Boney and Drut from Trapdoor (me).

Talos from Jason and the Argonauts (me)..

An ewok from Star Wars (both of us).

Gorbash from Flight of Dragons (me).

Ludo, Sir Didymus and Ambrosius from Labyrinth (both of us).

The Centurion from Altered Beast (me).

Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service (my wife).

The Niffler from Fantastic Beasts (my wife).

Thinking back on it I probably should've painted them all as a complete figure rather than chop the circle out of them on the side...the ones I did do that with gave me a lot more wiggle room with regards to positioning. Then again the process always improves the longer the project.

Oo yeah, and I did a bonus one:

Dug from Up.

And I did a little one that didn't fit in the final version.

The glaive from Krull.
