Wedding postage

Hello there!

Well, it's been a while since I posted on here and I have a reason. I got married! Yep, and I had to do something creative for it. So this is the first of 3 posts about all the decorations and design stuff me (and my now wife) did.

First of all come the save the dates and invitations. I started these way back in summer 2017..feels like a lifetime ago.

I tried in the beginning to come up with an overall theme, but then decided that the theme should be us. So I did something (that I think at least) has shades of Graeme Base's Animalia, one of my favourite books growing up.

So my wife likes cats, stained glass windows and Jane Austen and I like Doctor Who, Dinosaurs and we both like Lord of the Rings and ale so I came up with this for the save the date.

Next onto the invite. I went with the same kinda theme, but a bit more detailed.

So that's a Farnsworth from Warehouse 13, a martian from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, Sir Arthur from Ghouls 'n ghosts, a cooking spoon, a pencil, Calvin and Hobbes, tea (my wife loves tea!), Poirot TV series, Catan, David Attenborough, and Carradine's Cockey Singalong. Very, very us!

A very old and dear friend of ours helped with putting the words on. Thanks a million Emma!

Very nice to do some painting again. Like acrylics, they're very bright and you can just wash the brushes off with water, not smelly old white spirit.

Cake Toppering

Had a commission! Don't get many of those. Another wedding cake topper this time, pretty unconventional, but also conventional as well. I usually avoid doing models of actual human beings like the plague, but was being paid to do it this time so I had to.

The dog had to be replaced halfway through. He ended up being twice the size and with a weird scary face.

MCM on the airwaves

So, I was at MCM London Comic Con this past weekend. I was worried that, under the new management, my stuff wouldn’t go down as well. So the organizers are a bit OTT with the applications process, but the event is the same as ever. I made a nice, tidy bit of money as well, always good (and the little iZettle was incredibly handy).

That's my friend Oniphoenix who's got the other half of the table there. Check out his work here

Something quite out there happened on the Saturday. Two young gentlemen came up to our table (my lovely lady was helping me that day) and asked me if I could do an interview for them about my work. Turns out they were the creators of a podcast called Wisdom Teeth where they talk about all things popular culture. Give their MCM feature episode a listen here. (The interview with us occurs 14 minutes and 22 seconds in if you want to fast forward).

Posters, posters, posters!

It's been a bit of a while since I last posted. I have been working on stuff, just nothing all that new. My lovely lady thought it would be a good idea to put my Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian creatures and Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian creatures into actual alphabet posters.

And, just in case you wondered, I'm not wasting any time putting them on my Etsy shop either.

Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian:

Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian:

So I've got quite a collection of posters now.

I've also invested in a little thingy called an iZettle. It's a sort of mini card reader for small traders and the like. I'm going to be at the London MCM Comic Con at the end of the month, going to try it out then.

Randinos

Here are some dinos I did for a project that never went anywhere. I could hide them away, but, y'know what...I did them and this is where I put my artwork so why the hell not?

Some more detailed dinos were required. Can't say it's really the way I like to do them, but heyho.

So we have (clockwise from far left and spiraling inwards)

Ceratosaurus, Allosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Therizinosaurus, Chasmosaurus, Liopleurodon, Henodus, Stegosaurus, Euoplocephalus, Caudipteryx, Scelidosaurus, Iguanodon and an Apatosaurus being attacked by Dromaeosaurus in the middle.

Seeing as I put some detail into some of them I'm putting some up bigger as well.

Stegosaurus
