Something in the Water

Latest quick Redsnow project, simple as that. Seems to be the norm that I have to do some kind of big reveal at the end of anything comicish I do.

RedSnow RPG

Ok, two new pieces of artwork for the latest RedSnow project, all about creating the artwork for a roleplaying game, specifically the character cards. They're supposed to be post apocalyptic takes on typical fantasy themes.

Renard dans la nuit

A couple of paintings..yeah, using actual paint!

I get a certain weird thrill when I see a fox in the dead of night. They're just so mysterious. In The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany foxes are the only creatures that can move from our world to the elven world, I can totally understand someone coming up with that idea. I'm also working with this idea that, in a few years time, the orange streetlamp will be totally gone from our streets. I know this is a good thing for light pollution and all that, but the weird, yellowy, browny light that comes off them instantly creates atmosphere..I'll miss that.

London

3 things I did for a job I didnt get in the end, all about London and its various places..went down a bit of a blind alley with the concept, ran out of statues and things to animate! Bit worried that the girl in the NHM one looks a little too much like Dora the Explorer..

The Brush that is Zed - Goblin

first bash at something 3D, lotsa fun.

Created from a ball, not from some weird tool, might do a dinosaur next..bit ambitious, I think.

CROM!!

Here's the artwork for the latest RedSnow project, all about video game covers..I chose to pay homage to all the greatest loin-clothed barbarian games of the 1980s. Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Lionheart were played a lot as 'research';)

R.I.P. Frank Frazetta

One of my all-time inspirations

Solomon Kane in the Land of the Akaanas

Wee bit scribbly, this one..either I ran out of time, patience, or its one of those 'speed paints'. Also a tiny bit reminiscent of stuff I've done before, kinda Joseph Wright of Derby meets Frank Frazetta (I wish).

Kaboom!

Background artwork for a book cover...simple as.

Monday, 15 March 2010

I likes doing book covers for fun

Here's an unused version of a book cover for a job from..last year I think. The finished thing ended up looking a bit Danielle Steel, but I always had this kinda Irwin Allen idea in the back of my head. *cue Lost in Space music*

Tobor and Goldilocks and the Three Bullies

A couple of spreads for some ideas for children's books. The top one for tobor, about a robot who lands on earth and gets a bunch of fridge magnet letters stuck on his front mixed up (to be added). The end has him meet a human boy who tells him it should spell out 'robot'. The other is a twist on goldilocks and the 3 bears called goldilocks and the three bullies..maybe its been done before..dunno..

Velociraptor with feathers

Just how do you put feathers on a dinosaur? I mean, are they covered all over, or just little bits here and there?

Here's some bits of the RedSnow Fighter's Brawl project that never saw the light of day. Thought for a while I'd go the whole hog and instead of doing just one image for my characters, so them doing some different moves.
Ship designs for a future Redsnow project, all about a Flight of the Navigator style ship thats full of weird creatures from the four corners of the universe.

In the finished version you'll be able to click on the window and go inside...

A couple of sketches done on London's gritty, grotty underground
